A greener CES

CES is one of the biggest displays of American consumerism. But the green theme is creeping in there as well.
It will have a section called Greener Gadgets Tech Zone, which has grown from just 520 square feet last year to more than 3,000 square feet this year. Exhibitors will include Better Energy Systems, which makes the Solio solar charger; Fuji, with its Enviromax batteries; Horizon Fuel Cell; and even Motorola. Expect to see more eco-themed announcements from some of the CES headliners this year. CEA spokesperson Jennifer Bemisderfer advises industry-watchers to look out for environmental news and products from the likes of Toshiba, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and HP.
If you’re going to be in Vegas for the upcoming CES show, be sure to check out the GREENER GADGETS: The Future Of Consumer Technology session on January 10th as well.
While CES has not embraced green as closely as the auto shows nowadays (where eco-friendly cars hog most of the limelight), manufacturers are figuring that more and more consumers are becoming environmentally conscious and not just about power consumption, but start to end of lifecycle of gadget emissions, recycling et al. Going green can be a nice differentiator and tus, make sense financially.
Thanks, Businessweek.
