It is all very easy to say, “Do No Bad“. But can we really change human habits and make companies and individuals behave only through moral preaching? We cannot ask people to live in caves to conserve energy. Or expect companies to donate to charities instead of their executive’s salary accounts.
We believe that the only way is through economic carrots and sticks. It could be taxes or even the “invisible hand”. Only when there are financial incentives, as an individual or as part of an organisation, people will wholeheartedly use our natural resources - air, water, energy, etc - judiciously and in sustainable manner. But technological solutions should not expect us to easily give up our material comforts or those striving for them still, to stop trying for “greener causes”. The most we can expect is the “Creative Capitalism“, in the words of Bill Gates.
